ROUND SCHEDULING
Each round has a 1-week time limit to deliver the results of the games. The Deadline, for every round, to complete matchups is 48 hours after the scheduled start of the round.
Weekly rounds start on Monday at 00:00 UTC. If, however, both teams have finished their previous rounds early, you may start pairing the subsequent matchups immediately. For further information, the round schedule is available here.
All matches have to be completed, and results entered, by Sunday of the same week, 23:59 UTC.
E.g. Round 1 starts on Monday 31 May 20xx at 00:00 UTC. You have until 2 June 20xx 23.59 UTC to determine the matchups. All matches have to be completed, and results inputted, by Sunday 6 June 20xx 23:59 UTC.
PARTICIPATION FEE
The Entry fee is set at €10 per participant. This includes all registered members of the team. Non registered individuals are not allowed to participate the competition in any capacity.
E.g. a Team composed of 5 Players, 2 subs and 1 non-playing Captain will have a total of 8 participants and thus a fee of 80€.
The entry fee is meant to fund prizes for all participants and supporters. Prize details will be defined and communicated to Captains after funds have been gathered. Teams are expected to pay by September 15th 2023.
Every Captain is expected to perform a single payment for the whole Team using Paypal. Details will be provided to Captains on the dedicated discord channel and via email.
Please note that 100% of the fees will be invested in event support, tournament activities and prizing.
EVENT FORMAT
XTC 2023 is played using the 2.5 ruleset, Standard format.
Both group and final stage are played using the Round Robin format.
In each round, teams will face off on 5 tables, each table representing one of the 7 factions of the game (no repeats in the same round).
RULES AND RELEVANT DOCUMENTATION
XTC follows all the latest official rules for X-wing as well as the clarifications provided on the Official Forums.
GAME FORMAT AND LIMITATIONS
XTC 2023 will be played in X-Wing Second Edition in the Standard format (ref. 2.5 ruleset documentation). No additional list-building limitations will be enforced between lists of the same team, with the exception that only a single Squadron can represent each Faction.
TEAM COMPOSITION & FACTION ASSIGNMENT
Each team will be composed of up to 5 players and up to 2 two substitute players, with the possibility of registering 1 additional (one) non playing participant.
Teams are allowed up to 2 "Mercenaries" (players from another country) to complete their ranks.
The non playing participant can either be a non-playing captain (hence dealing with pairings and team coordination, without playing) or a coach, in case said participant does not want to deal primarily with the pairing procedure.
The team will present one squadlist from 5 of the 7 available factions: Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, Scum and Villainy, Resistance, First Order, Galactic Republic, and Separatist Alliance.
Players are bound to a faction and cannot be assigned by their captain to a different faction every round. Substitute players can sub in for players of any faction (once per week), to make up for conflict schedules. Opposing captain shoud be informed as soon as possible.
Please note that in case of an odd number of registered teams, a “United Nations/Pirate” Team may be entered into the tournament to avoid byes.
ADDITIONAL TEAM MEMBERS AND IN-GAME COMMUNICATION
Team Members and collaborators are not allowed to join the discord rooms or TTS tables during the matches, to ensure fairness and sportsmanship of the event.
Additional note: Captains (or registered Coaches) are only allowed to join the TTS game rooms in case of a table dispute, and BOTH Captains (or registered Coaches) should be present in such an occurrence.
ADDITIONAL LIST BUILDING AND CHANGING RESTRICTIONS
During the Group Stage it will not be possible to change the submitted squadron lists. A time window between the Group Stage and the Final Stage will take place where list updates will be possible, but only in the event of new releases of products and/or updated point costs for cards. Details will be defined before the start of the Group Stage. There are NO LIMITS regarding unique pilots or unique/generic upgrade cards that can be used in the different squads.
LIST DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS
Please fill the following form before the deadline: Team Roster and Lists submission
The form will be also emailed to Captains and available on this website, for maximum transparency.
POINTS UPDATE CUT-OFF
In the event of new point costs being released between Group Stage and Final Stage, they will be considered effective and valid, along with consequent possibilities of list updates, if published by Atomic Mass Games up to 14 days before the start of the Final Stage (Nov 24th 2023).
SCORING
Each round will give 1 Team Victory to the winning team and 1 Player Victory for each player’s victory. The possible results a team can achieve each round are 7-0, 6-1, 5-2, 4-3, 3-4, 2-5, 1-6, or 0-7.
TIEBREAKERS
The following is the ranking of results. In the case of a Tie, consult the ranking below it to break said tie.
Please refer to Longshanks Statistics for more details.
E.g. If two teams are tied for Team Tournament points (rank 1), then the tie breaker will be Number of team wins (rank 2).
Team tournament points
Number of team wins/draws/losses
Number of matches played as a team
Total number of player wins/draws/losses
Total number of games played by team members
Head-to-Head (HtH)
Sum of Victory points for the round (sVP - to be confirmed);
Strength of Schedule (SoS - not used in Round Robin).
PAIRING PROCEDURE
To facilitate pairings procedures we suggest the use of a card for faction/player combination of the team, with the faction clearly stated on the card. These will be referred to as “Factions” in the following paragraph.
Printable/TTS card sets with the 7 Factions will be posted online and available to all teams to download, customize and print. In addition, the organisation will provide some additional digital copies to the Captains.
Please remember that Factions should be paired and not players, to avoid confusion in case of player swaps or Coaches subbing in for unavailable players. The Captain is responsible for pairing procedures but can consult with his teammates.
Once matchups are determined, report them to the relevant channel in the discord server.
A situation might occur where, due to sudden and unforeseeable circumstances, a Captain cannot perform pairings. The Captain may temporarily promote one teammate, Coach or substitute for this honor - obviously, said Captain is also allowed to blame this substitute for how pairings went!
TOURNAMENT SCENARIOS
The X-wing 2.5 ruleset, Standard Format is played using scenarios. AMG has provided 4 scenarios for competitive events. Every round one of the scenarios will be randomly drawn using the procedures descripted in the official rules.
More details on scenario assigment and pairings interactions is provided here.
SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS
If a team needs a substitute to play instead of a registered Faction player, the Team Captain should inform the opposing Captain during the pairing procedure.
If issues for a player arise in between the pairing process and the actual scheduled match, both Captains of the confronting teams should be made aware of the substitution as soon as possible. The substitute player name and the Faction played by them should be clearly communicated in writing, possibly in the group's pairing announcement channel.
Also, a substitute ("S") can only sub for the absent player ("A"). It is not possible to have another registered player ("B") sub the absent (A), and the registered substitute (S) play instead of the registered player (B).
PLAYING WITH THE OPPONENT ON TTS
XTC protocols follow the standards set originally up by Gold Squadron Podcast. As such, the following are considered common practices that must be followed to ensure tournament integrity.
When pairings are determined, schedule the playing time with your opponent, and then:
Go to the XTC Discord Channel and, with your opponent, choose a voice channel.
Confirm that your opponent is who you are assigned to play.
The player with the most secure internet connection should make the room.
Name the room - XTC## (E.g. XTC09)
XTC should be capitalized
As the matches are not played contemporary, just be sure that the number is unique.
Your room's password MUST be: XTC## (E.g. XTC09)
XTC should be capitalized
When setting up the room do not limit the number of seats so that Judges and other staff can enter the room as needed.
Share a YASB link of your list with your opponent via discord direct message. This step is mandatory. Links to other squad builders not allowed.
Spawn TWO (2) copies of your squad, setting one in your play area and the other on the unused table. Spawn your list using 1 of the 2 methods below
Using the YASB TTS text import
Pull the List from a recently saved disk.
If you require extra color coding outside of what TTS automatically does, you must have it saved in "saved objects" in TTS.Additional color coding during setup of a game is not allowed for the sake of time
Once setup is complete, start your table clock on TTS and begin play
When your game is complete, BOTH players must communicate the results to their respective Captains. The Captains will then enter/confirm the result on Table Top TO. Please double check for accuracy. This is the number 1 thing that slows down events.
END OF ROUND - WHAT TO DO?
Players are expected to use the in-built TTS timer, using 75 minutes as a standard round timer. Please refer to the X-Wing official tournament rules for more details.
Standard rules for checking the criteria for winning (i.e. ending) the games are used. See X-Wing Rules reference, page 11 (End Rules).
A round is considered finished when the Step 4 of the End Phase (i.e. Recurring and Negative Recurring charges) is completed. If winning conditions are not met, the Planning Phase of the next round begins. Please keep in mind that players are asked to keep an acceptable game pace and not stall the game, adhering to the "Premier" tier of the event as per the FFG rules.
When your game is complete, BOTH Players must report the results to the respective Captains. Please double check for accuracy.
Captains will then report the score on the relevant TTT page.
EXTERNAL INTERFERENCE WITH GAMES
Players shall not receive any aid from outside the game, be it via chat, voice, and/or help from third parties in the same room.
Team Captains, Judges, and streamers (and co-hosts) are the only non-playing individuals allowed to join the Discord Voice Chats and TTS Tables. Streamers and their guests are NOT allowed to interfere with the game.
JUDGE TEAM INVOLVEMENT WHILE PLAYING
These pararaph contains important instructions for players.
All disputes on dice, collisions, overlaps, arcs etc. are solved via the Tabletop Simulator interface. The contents of the game log apply. Please note that the right click arc checker supersedes the visual arc checker.
Players can escalate the dispute by reporting to their Captain (or registered Team Coach), who can mutually join the game room temporarily to discuss the issue at hand. No immediate Judge involvement is foreseen in the games during Group Stage, unless deemed necessary by peculiar card /abilities interactions.
When consulting their Captains the players can agree to stop the timer for the duration of the inquiry. The Captains (or registered Team Coaches) of the involved teams can then escalate the issue by contacting the Judge team in their dedicated room.
When not playing: feel free to contact the Judges in case of disputes over the interpretation of cards or rules and to request general clarifications in the #rules-discussion channel.
Judges will speak with players and if needed will join the players' game on TTS.
IN THE EVENT OF TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES
Players are expected to have the TTS Autosave function activated by default. In addition, we advise to manually save at the end of every turn to have the possibility to restore the game state in case of a service disruption.
Please refer to this GSP Video for additional information.
Technology issues always happen but make sure to set yourself up for success by testing ahead of time to make sure your devices can run/access all required programs and sites at the same time.
PRIZES
The hierarchy of prizes for the event will be disclosed during the Group Stage, according to the number of teams that complete the registration process.
MATCH STREAMING POLICY
Players, other spectators, and third parties cannot join any game on TTS to watch the game. In order to limit the possibility of players receiving outside help, we are not allowing outside viewing of games besides those streamed by XTC and other approved streamers that have joined the streamhub. For a list of approved streamers, please consult the XTC Streamers page.
All games must be streamed with a delay no less than 90 seconds.
Players cannot stream their games to Discord, but can record them with their opponent's consent, as long as managing the recording will not delay play in any way. Also, in order to limit the possibility of players receiving outside help, we are not allowing outside viewing of games.
Teams allowing the stream of their games through non-trusted partners might be assigned penalty points (e.g. deducted wins from the final results) at the discretion of the XTC Organisation.
STREAMERS INTERFERENCE POLICY
TL;dr if you are not a player. call a judge. Exactly like in a in-person event.
The fundamental principle of Streaming at XTC is that there should be NO DIFFERENCE between a game being streamed and a game not being streamed, to ensure consistency of the play experience for participants, streamers and spectators.
For this reason, the XTC policy has been updated to be as close as possible to live events.
Streamers and commenters are classified as Spectators (as per the FFG Tournament Rules). At the online edition of XTC, a spectator is any individual at a tournament not actively engaging in another role (player. floor leader) at the time of the game. This applies to streamers and their co-hosts, be them players in teams and/or captains/coaches actively participating to the game commentary. The Judges for XTC are classified as "floor leaders".
Spectators must not disturb an ongoing game and cannot provide any input or assistance to players during their games. This applies to viewers in particular, as they are not engaging any active role in the ongoing game.
Different scenarios are depicted for mere reference, in descending order of severity: breach of rules, missed opportunity (a.k.a. "missed trigger), irregular table state. These scenarios suggest to Streamers the actions to take.
- If a Streamer (spectator) believes they have witnessed a breach of the rules in a game they are watching, a spectator should NOT INTERFERE and bring it to the attention of the judge team immediately, tagging "@judge" in the dedicated discord channel #juuuuudge. A member of the judge team will infere on the game state if needed. Please note that due to the tournament spanning on all timezones, it may happen that the judge response is delayed. Warnings and/or penalty points will be issued if a rollback is required due to it indicating a major game state issues, per floor rules.
- If a Streamer (spectator) believes they have witnessed a missed opportunity, they MUST NOT interfere with the game. A missed opportunity does NOT constitute a breach in the rules, and spectators should not comment on missed opportunities. Also viewers of said streams are mandated not to interfere with the game and players, hence the mandatory delay applied to streams. Infringing this rule, especially by components of teams participating in XTC may result in penalty points applied by the judge team (potentially resulting in game losses and points deductions) for unsportsman conduct.
Players are indeed expected to follow the game’s rules, remembering to perform actions and use card effects when indicated. It is each player’s responsibility to maintain a proper game state, and to ensure that all mandatory abilities and game steps are acknowledged. If a player forgets to use an effect during the timing specified by that effect, that player cannot retroactively use it without the consent of their opponent. Players are expected to act with respect and not intentionally distract or rush an opponent with the intent of forcing a missed opportunity. Behaviours infringing this rule fall under the "unsportsmanship conduct" and may end up in penalty points being attributed to the team.
- If a Streamer (spectator) believes they have witnessed an irregularity in table state (e.g. green tokens not removed in the cleanup phase, a spent Target Lock token not being removed, etc.) they MUST NOT interfere with the game and DO CALL a judge. The maintenance of clear and correct table state is responsibility of the players and of the players only, as per the X-Wing rules. Warning points, eventually escalated to penalty points for repeated infringments, may be issued at the Judge team's discretion.
On missed opportunities:
The classification of "missed opportunities/triggers" is described in the Rules Regulations for X-Wing. In said document, it is stated that all abilities enter the queue automatically at their timing point, if eligible. Therefore, the idea of "optional" triggers for abilities only exists in the dice modification step where there is not queue.
Therefore, an ability or trigger being missed (be it intentional or not) by players is NOT equivalent to irregular game state. This means that streamers and spectators should absolutely NOT interfere with players about missed opportunities and breaches of rules, but notify the judge team as per the FFG floor rules contained in the tournament regulations and fundamental document event.
PARTICIPANTS EXPECTATIONS
All players participating XTC must:
Know the abilities of their own lists;
Know the basics of using Table Top Simulator;
Communicate to their opponent Via Discord Voice chat on the XTC server. Using headphones/headset is highly recommended);
Report all results on Table Top TO (captains).
EVENT AFFILIATION AND ENDORSEMENTS
XTC is not affiliated with Fantasy Flight Games, Atomic Mass Games or their partners.
This is not an official event, but is played following the same standards expected for Official Premier level Events.
